
Here's what's coming our way this week (in each subject area):
 | This week, we will continue our study of place value including determining the relationship between places in a place value chart and reading, writing, comparing, and rounding numbers. Students were given a Study Guide for Chapter 1 on Thursday, Sept. 8th.
The Chapter 1 Test will be on Wednesday, Sept. 14th. 4th math grade standards: 4.NSBT.1: Understand that, in a multi-digit whole number, a digit represents ten times what the same digit represents in the place to its right.
4.NSBT.2: Recognize math periods and number patterns within each period to read and write in standard form large numbers through 999,999,999. 4.NSBT. 3::Use rounding as one form of estimation and round whole numbers to any given place value. |
 | Our study of weather began with a discussion and research of the composition of Earth's atmosphere. This week, we will review the composition of Earth's atmosphere as well discuss how this composition provides for the weather conditions that we experience each day. Last week, students created water cycle models. We will begin identifying and exemplifying cloud types that may form throughout the water cycle. We will also dive deeper into our Science Interactive Journal, which allows students to practice note-taking and synthesizing new information. |
 | Reading: Last week, we read the focused on identifying the central idea of text as well as identifying relative pronouns and adverbs while reading the texts: "A Story of You" and Flora & Ulysses. This week, we will review finding the central idea of texts, making inferences, identifying relative pronouns and adverbs as well as asking and answering questions about text in addition to story elements (characters, setting, and plot).
Writing: We are continuing our narratives including identifying character traits (internal and external traits) of characters that we will add to our narratives. Students will also begin writing short scenes for their narrative essays. |
 | In Social Studies, we will study the interaction of cultural groups and the influence of geography on these groups. This week, students will really begin using their Social Studies interactive journals to make connections to history.
