Reading: One of the most valuable reading strategies that your child could ever learn is to make inferences. This week, We will continue learning how making inferences is necessary while reading and learning about how characters change throughout a story in addition to how authors use figurative language such as adages, proverbs, and hyperboles to add meaning to stories. We will also discuss social, cultural, and historical contexts of text and the affect of such on characters, settings, and plot development. We will read several texts to help us practice using the above strategies including the text: "The Year of the Rat" in students' Reading Textbook. Writing: Our narrative stories are still a work in progress. Students are still developing their characters and working on rehearsal scenes/beginning the introduction to their narrative essays. | |
